Remember to keep up your devotion to YHWH by going to the one and only Hebrew temple in Jerusalem! Our sanctuary has II rooms, as many other religious temples do, but in ours one is empty, as it is where the Arch of the Covenant used to be. No idols there!
We have been specially chosen and set apart by the one God to serve and obey his laws. We will also be a light to the Gentiles!

Culture: Who proclaims the resurrection?
As most people will have now heard, there are some people that are going around proclaiming that the man Jesus is the messiah, and rose from the dead after he was crucified back in the early XXX's.
What is being taught is that it is "necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead," and Paul even says, "This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ." This is being taught from synagogues across the ends of the earth.

The numbers of Jesus-followers have been growing, to many thousands of people.
Could this man Jesus be the Messiah?

Emp Watch: NERO of the future!
THIS JUST IN FROM THE FUTURE!
One of my trusted sources went to a soothsayer, and I've sworn secrecy to his identity, but this is the only place where you will hear about the fall of Claudius and find out who will take over!
Nero will become emperor number V in the year LIV. He will gain the power because he is the only relative of Augustus. It gets juicy here: Agrippa will have Claudius poisoned since the big C seems to favour his other son, Domitius!
The soothsayer also said Agrippa is going to try to seek power through Nero, and said something about both faces appearing on coins.
Apparently she had some vision about a big fire, and said that Nero would be blamed for it, but he would pass that blame onto those Christians, creating a persecution campaign.
Nero will marry III different wives, killing one before moving on to the next.
In LXVIII the Gaelic and Spanish legions, along with the Praetorian guard will come up against Nero, and Nero will commit suicide. Time will tell if this comes to pass!

Emp Watch: Claudius Update
Claudius has changed the way senate works, giving lots of the administration work to freedmen. He also has not lived up to his predecessors fighting ways, but captured Colchester in XLIII.
There was crazy drama in XLVIII when Claudius' wife, Messallina, married the consul Silius, as a plot against the emperor. Obviously, both were put to death pretty quickly.
So Claudius has married Agrippa the Young, and took in her son, Domitius, the only surviving direct relatives to Augustus. Agrippa "persuaded" Claudius to adopt Domitius, who then changed his name to Nero.
Well, carpe diem! Enjoy todays rain!

Emp Watch: Claudius in Command
The Greeks yet again a new emperor!
Mr. Claudius was not excepted to achieve rule, but he was born into the Roman imperial family.
I'm just going to come right out and say that he clearly has some physical disabilities... This didn't help him to the number I spot!
But, after Caligula was killed the Pretorian Guard found Claudius in his house and made him the emperor! The senate even refused him for II days, but then came under his rule in XLI.
So far we're off to a very different start. Stay tableted for updates!

Emp Watch: Emperor Caligula
Another Emperor has come and gone from these lands. Caligula, also known as Gaius, succeeded his grandfather, Tiberius, in XXXVII AD. Right away his reign started off with drama. There are rumours that he and the Pretorian Prefect Macro suffocated him with a pillow!
So obviously we knew this guy was bad news.
Maybe that's misleading. At first the Greeks thought he was a great god. I mean, sure, he comes from a powerful linage, and abolished the sales tax (woohoo!), but then he got sick after ruling for VII months and everything went downhill. I personally benifeted from his lavish spending on the cities, and didn't have to worry about the soldiers invading my fields since he didn't want to spend on war, BUT THIS MAN IS A DIRTY DOG. He tried to put a statue of himself in the Temple of Jerusalem!!!
I'd have spat on him and gladly died for it if I had ever seen him. In XLI he was assassinated by his own guard.

Emp Watch: Good Guy Tiberius
Tiberius had restored Rome's financial situation! After it started to go down hill with Augustus I thought it must be the fall of Rome, but things are in better light! Anyways, the empire won't be falling until the Messiah comes and kicks some Roman booty!
Also, civil service has never looked this good!
I'm kind of wondering what will happen since he isn't looking so hot in the eyes of senate, and those allegations that he poisoned Germanicus in XIX AD weren't so great... But heck, it made great gossip! The people in the markets were like buzzards for days!

Emp Watch: Tiberius take over from Uncle Augustus!
What happened to lead up to this? Back in X BC Augustus made Tiberius divorce Vipsania and marry Julia, Augustus' daughter. Then we remember that in IV AD, Augustus adopted Tiberius, since his own grandkids died.
Auggy got a little controlling in his end days before crunking out this past August (LOL) of XIV AD.
So now, in the year XIV AD, Tiberius has become the emperor!

Emp Watch: Augustus STILL in the house
Yikes, it's been a few decades since my last update! Same people in power though, as the same Emp has been ruler for a long time!
Here's what you may have missed:
Here's what you may have missed:
- In XXVII BC Augustus made a monarchy system we call the principate. Basically it means he gets all the power of Rome, including the army.
- The man has made sure we'll never forget his pretty little face, since all our money has him on it!
- He's been good to society, sponsoring poets. My kids love the stories that Horace writes!
- Rome has a standing army! This is to ensure peace from those barbarians we keep hearing about in marketplaces.
I don't know what he's going to do about a heir. I mean, Augustus is getting KIND OF OLD, and since he hasn't had a son maybe it'll be one of his nephews.
Emp Watch: WE HAVE AN EMPEROR!
It is the year XXVII BC and our very first emperor has just replaced the Roman Republic with a new monarchy! We hope that he will bring long-term peace! Personally I still don’t trust these Romans, Jews all the way. We just need to keep waiting for the coming Messiah....
Anyways, here is a bit of history about our new ruler Augustus:
We all remember his good ol’ great uncle, Julius Caesar, and his bloody assassination. Octavian was named as heir, and in XXXI BC defeated Antony and Cleo at the Battle of Actium, and became the ruler of Rome fair and square.
That’s when Octavian changed his name to what we know him as today, the serene Augustus.
Well wishes to him... Glad I just don't have to pay taxes!
